It is the brain child of Mr. Mansa Ram Ahuja, Founder President of the Jeevan Mukt mission. Through over thirty centres located in Chandigarh, Panchkula, Derabassi, Ludhiana, the Jeevan Mukt mission tries to expand its reach to needy children and coordinates with Nanhe Kadam to fortify the same.

Here's what Mr. Mansa Ram Ahuja had to say about Nanhe Kadam: "Nanhe Kadam helps sponsor the education of more than 50 children each year and has helped us raise funds for different extra-curricular activities."

A brainchild of Mrs. Jotinder Kahlon, Gyan Uday started its operations in 2001 with a few underprivileged children being taught in a Gurudwara (Sikh Temple) in Chandigarh. Since then it has shifted base to one of the local schools where evening classes are held everyday for 60 underprivileged children of age groups 4-18 years. The teachers assist the children with their schoolwork along with promoting extra-curricular activities like games, music and painting. Gyan Uday also tries to support the education of these children financially. Nanhe Kadam has joined hands with Gyan Uday with an aim to reinforce their education programs.

Here's what Mrs. Kahlon had to say about Nanhe Kadam: "It was god-sent that 'Nanhe Kadam' came into my life. I had started a project-'Gyan Uday', as tutorial classes for the underprivileged. Nanhe Kadam stepped in with help in Mathematics over the weekends. They are giving undivided attention to around twenty five children in Maths who are now doing extremely well. A child who is an excellent painter has used their platform for show-casing his talent. I'm getting help with tuition fees of some children studying in Public Schools. Thank you Nanhe kadam and its team of dedicated workers."
